I believe that it is definitely good to start off with a great quality webcam when you are modeling. Of course, you have to think of a couple of things when you are picking out your new fancy piece of equipment, such as video quality, audio quality, compatibility, and more. As a model myself, I have learned to only buy cams that are of the best quality, and that does mean spending a pretty penny.

Video Quality

I have found that the most important feature of any great webcam is going to be the video quality. This is simply because you are going to be recording yourself with the cam, and the quality has to be great for your viewers. The resolution is what determines the quality of video, so make sure to get the cam with the best resolution possible. I have always found that an HD cam with a high amount of megapixels is best.

Audio Quality

The second most important factor is audio quality. Trust me, you don’t want to be the model that everyone can’t hear or can almost not hear. A lot of models will mistakenly get a cam that is not loud or clear, making the voice distorted. So, make sure to get a cam with a stereo microphone, if you can afford to.

Even though it is third on the list, this factor is just as important as the other first two. You are going to want to ensure that the webcam you buy is compatible with the operating system of your computer. You will find that most cams are going to list what systems they are are compatible with.

You are for sure going to want to make sure that you buy the cam that has an autofocus. If you don’t do this you won’t get videos that are sharp and clear.

Mounting, Cost, Adjustment, Warranty, And Image Correction

Even though all of these factors are important, they are on the bottom of the list for a reason. If anything, make sure your webcam at least has the factors mentioned on the list before these factors.

You are probably going to want a cam that is made for mounting, and it should be stable enough to avoid any falls, shaking, or sliding. There are going to be different poses and spots you want captured in your video, so getting a cam that is adjustable is a good thing. Of course, you are going to want to think about how much the cam cost, your budget, and what you are willing to live without. However, remember that the cost and quality go hand in hand, meaning that the higher the price, the better the cam. A warranty that lasts awhile is good, and you are going to want a cam that comes with one (incase of random accidents).

Also, image correction is important. Image correction will help with lighting, simply because being inside the lighting will never be good enough.
